I remember it just like it was ten days ago... It was a cold foggy November day, and it actually was ten days ago. A day that was nothing special, and nothing to be excited about when I got up in the morning.
But soon after there was a special thing that happened that day after all. We decided we would spice this day up a little bit and off we went to our small town's special caffè - Caffè Čokl in city center.
It's a special place where they really care about coffee. And that's what I miss the most in my that's-fine-for-me-as-long-as-it's-cheap country. Compared to other European cities our coffee isn't very expensive, but it's a shame how awful it is!
You have to be a real expert to find a place where you can get an acceptable cup of this magic beverage, but to find and excelent one it is merely impossible.
Unless you've heard of Tine Čokl. He owns a small caffè that mostly hosts regular customers. Thay surely feel at home and welcome there. And so do all the coffee lovers that happen to find this cute little place. Tine gladly takes his time to explain everything about his coffee, his philosophy, and truly gets to know his customers. There's a passion in his eyes that is possible to see only in people that live for what they do.
I am determined that one day I want to become a coffee expert too. And listening to an expert and coffee lover like him, it not only makes me feel dilettante, but also makes me want it even more. It's such a beautiful profession.
Well, he made me try one thing that was new for me: air press coffee. Is similar to french press, just that the coffee is pressed through a filter, leaving the beverage without any pieces of coffee grind. And not only that, it's wonderfully tasteful hot, warm and cold. I couldn't believe it, but it changes flavours drastically with temperature, and I could say that even gets better when cooler. It really was an amazing experience. And thus an amazing day after that.
Here is a blog of Tine Čokl, the owner of this wonderful caffè in Ljubljana. Too bad it's only in Slovenian language, but at least you can find the address on the upper right side.
Oh, I forgot, also my girlfriend had her first day off her job, since she quit it for our trip to Australia just a day before... Oh, yes, and it was my birthday, but that's nothing to mention... If there wasn't for that delicious coffee it would be a cold foggy day just like any other.
